Summary/Abstract: The study of the pests that damage the patrimonial goods shows that objects made of organic materials constitute a potential food source and habitat for highly diverse insect species. 46 species of pests that damage goods made of wood, textiles, leather and leather substitutes, fur, paper, wooden (prefab) objects, adhesives, binding materials, and resins have been identified. The thoroughly examination of 688 volumes coming from the old book collection in the Golia Monastery storehouse (Iasi) indicates that natural materials are more susceptible to insect attacks than the synthetic ones. The degree of degradation has been established by evaluating the attack’s intensity of Stegobium paniceum (the bread cockroach), coupled by monitoring the microclimate conditions, and the accessibility of the materials that the books are made of.
