Summary/Abstract: Only a few months before the presidential elections in Russia, the Western world is in abeyance. Russia will surprise the world, no doubt, Putin’s proposal for the next president – Victor Zubkov – being one of them and not the least significant either. Russia will continue with its military defiance, and provocations, with its discourse reminding of the cold war, and its energetic offensive on the domestic stage. The state will strengthen its control over the mass media, the non-governmental organizations will be gradually put to silence, and the new ideology – a mixture of nationalism and fake democracy – will gain ground. An analysis of Russia’s present political and economic situation in the European and world context, and its maneuvers to gain the lost ground on a global level.
