Summary/Abstract: In his first play, Myrrha (1902), Milan Begović revealed how strongly he was impressed by the expressive skills of his Italian model, but he also announced, however implicitly, his distance towards D’Annunzio’s poetics and his racist ideology. The topos of an exceptionally gifted male individual, the myth of Superman and his artistic and political mission, the obsession by the Absolute Beauty, the metaphors of Dionysian metamorphosis and the absence of comic, as constant characteristics of D’Annunzio’s literature, were to be submitted to an ulterior deconstruction respectively in the comic mode of Begović’s Venus victrix, in the satirical one of his Slatka opasnost and finally in the (neo)tragic one of his play Svadbeni let.
