Summary/Abstract: Specific phobia is one of the most common anxiety disorders characterized by intense, persistent, and impairing fear responses toward specific objects or situations. This disorder may negatively affect individuals’ social, academic, and occupational functioning, leading to significant impairments in daily life. The development of specific phobia is associated with the interaction of biological, genetic, cognitive, behavioral, and environmental factors. Although various psychotherapeutic approaches are used in the treatment of specific phobias, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is among the most empirically supported interventions. The aim of this review is to examine the epidemiology and etiology of specific phobia, explain the basic principles of CBT, and evaluate its effectiveness in treatment. Current studies focusing on specific phobia and CBT were reviewed and systematically evaluated. Findings indicate that CBT is effective in reducing phobic symptoms, decreasing avoidance behaviors, and improving quality of life. In addition, exposure techniques, cognitive restructuring, and psychoeducation contribute significantly to treatment success. Overall, CBT is considered an effective, reliable, and evidence-based treatment approach for specific phobia.
