Summary/Abstract: People are born into a family environment in order to experience joy and happiness in its various forms and periods, but also to learn to prevent and minimise experiences associated with pain and suffering. The care provided by children's caregivers should be aimed at forming in them a psychophysical individuality that allows for the experience of wellbeing and the prevention of pathological behaviour. The category of defective parental attitudes - authoritarian, permissive, and defective guardianship - which amount to a young person's loss of a sense of self-worth, efficacy, security and justice, and to a home atmosphere saturated with the paradigm of disregard, conflict, deviation and destruction, is significantly responsible for the self-destructive behaviour of children and adolescents. The significant influence of the family environment, especially negative parenting, should be emphasised as a phenomenon creating susceptibility in children and adolescents to choosing destructive actions, including suicidal behaviour.
