Summary/Abstract: The migrants who arrived in Bulgaria were descendants of Czechs who had previously (in the 1820s) settled in the Banat region. Their migration was prompted by the enactment of a law regarding the settlement of uninhabited land in 1880. Between 1897 and 1898, more than fifty Czech families entered Bulgarian territory; however, more than two years of wandering and hardship elapsed before they permanently settled in an area known as Gladno Pole (near the present-day town of Miziya). There, in the autumn of 1900, they founded an unnamed village, which was named Vojvodovo the following year.
