Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the problem of the loosing (or intentional destruction) of Slavonic self-identification with Czechs nowadays and literary reflection of this phenomenon in the contemporary Czech prose (novel Sister by Jachym Topol). The author interprets the problem of contrast Slavonic – Central European or Slavonic – European nowadays. Some questions that have no answers are determined. For example: Is the ethnic and non-ethnic belonging subjective category; if it is objective category, what are the criteria of this objectivity; which ethnic belonging is more relevant – territorial, historical or genetic; is the ethnic belonging only pragmatic category that is used when political interests demand this; can a person overcome the conscious of ethnic belonging?
