Short Description
Porta Balkanica is the only peer-reviewed academic journal of its kind in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Published since 2009, it brings together original scholarly work at the crossroads of cultural anthropology and Balkan studies. Articles are grouped into sections based on their main approach — History, Literature, Linguistics, Ethnology, Political Science, Sociology, Religious Studies, and Musicology among them. Alongside peer-reviewed research, the journal also makes room for book reviews, translations, essays, interviews, and reportage. At its heart, Porta Balkanica aims to open a door to the region — encouraging a more rational, critical way of looking at Southeastern Europe. Its scope covers twelve countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Greece, and Turkey.
