Summary/Abstract: In the first part of the current series of studies dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov” – Varna, I. The Beginning, it was noted that already in the initial period of the establishment of the Higher Medical Institute (HMI) of Varna, the foundations were laid for a new, in many respects innovative, and highly valued by both lecturers and students centre for medical education, which became a stable basis for its future sustainable development. The present second part is devoted to the subsequent stage in the development of HMI–Varna, during which a complex but extremely important period of continued intensive consolidation and expansion of the achievements attained took place. Due recognition must be given to those who undertook and fulfilled the difficult yet responsible and dignified mission not only to preserve what had been achieved, but also to further develop it and to strengthen the authority of what was then the third Higher Medical Institute in Bulgaria. As of 1 July 1966, HMI–Varna was led by a new rectoral administration headed by Prof. Dr Vladimir Borisov Ivanov, DSc, who was re-elected as Rector on 27 June 1968. Following the transformation of HMI–Varna into a Faculty of Medicine within the structure of the Medical Academy – Sofia, he was elected Dean on 8 August 1972, serving until 11 June 1973. From 11 June 1973, the position of Dean was held by Prof. Dr Raicho Koinov Raychev, DSc, who remained in office until 1 May 1977.
