Summary/Abstract: The competence of judicial authorities is a fundamental institution of criminal procedure, representing the legal empowerment granted to a criminal investigation body or to a court of law to handle a specific criminal case, to the exclusion of other authorities lacking jurisdiction. By regulating the rules on competence, the law ensures a logical and balanced allocation of cases, prevents conflicts between judicial authorities, and guarantees compliance with the principles governing criminal proceedings, such as legality, impartiality, and the separation of judicial functions.
