Summary/Abstract: The year 1919 witnessed a rich series of events that ultimately led to the formation of Greater Romania. Before the Supreme Council in Paris, the Romanian delegation fought energetically for Romania’s rights while its troops tried to cleanse the territory of Hungary of the Bolshevik disease. Moreover, the troops tried to recover the land beyond the Danube, assigned by the 1913 Treaty of Bucharest, up to Silistra.Through a change of diplomatic tactics, the intransigent Ionel. I. C. Brătianu, the head of the Romanian delegation, was replaced by the pliable Alexandru Vaida-Voevod, who had meanwhile become prime minister. In this context, advised by his close associates, King Ferdinand proposed to Queen Maria that she go to Paris to plead Romania’s cause, a proposal that flattered the sovereign, who enthusiastically declared: “I feel that I can help.”
