THE PERENNITY OF A MINDSET: THE “NĂSĂUD FRONTIER” IN LEGACIES “FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE PEOPLE”. DOCUMENTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

Summary/Abstract: The author presents documents, mostly previously unpublished, regarding a series of testamentary provisions, also materialized in foundational instruments or statutes, of wealthy individuals from the area of the former Năsăud Border Regiment. These provisions were most often made in favour of educational institutions and, implicitly, for meritorious students. The capital and the assets involved were to be administered, in most cases, by the institution of the Năsăud Frontier Funds, headquartered in Năsăud, thus contributing to the formation of the local intellectual elites.
