Homily in the teaching and pastoral ministry of Pope Francis

Summary/Abstract: Preaching is the primary function of the Church, therefore proclamation of the word of God is the most important task. Pope Francis is paying great attention to the role and importance of the homily. He does so in the Apostolic Exhortation of Evangelii gaudium, where a surprisingly great deal of attention is given to the homily, giving in fact a small lecture with very practical advices how to preach today. The ministry of the word plays an important role in the teaching and ministry of the pope of Argentina, as evidenced by the homilies in the chapel of St. Martha House. They belong to the most characteristic and well-grounded "new means of expression" of Francis's pontificate.
