Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the inseparable link between human rights and environmental protection, with a particular focus on assessing the compliance of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s legal framework with the European Union acquis. In addition to reviewing key European and international instruments, the paper examines the existing normative and institutional framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina, identifying challenges in implementation and the obligations undertaken in the process of European integration. Special attention is given to the Aarhus Convention, which connects the rights of access to information, public participation in decision-making, and access to justice with human rights and environmental protection, thereby constituting one of the foundations of the concept of "environmental democracy.” The paper relies on a comparative analysis of the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina legislation, reviews of reports from relevant international and domestic institutions, and a review of case law. This approach enables the identification of the degree of harmonisation, legal gaps, and recommendations for further strengthening the protection of the right to a healthy environment within the framework of European integration.
