Summary/Abstract: Contemporary higher education and training in tourism in Bulgaria in recent years has faced a number of challenges defined by the dynamic socio-economic conditions encompassed by the global world economy. In spite of the stable legal basis that has determined the state policy regarding higher education, in recent years the business and academic community have revealed new and specific trends, modelling the making of a number of managerial decisions determined by the current economic conjuncture. Current reality shows that universities have to find a solution to the problem of declining student numbers. On the other hand, the tourism business has to find a solution to the increasingly pronounced and prevailing situation in many areas of the lack of quality staff, and in many cases even the lack of it. In this regard, this paper is aimed at presenting practical-applied solutions regarding the Visa D (regulating the training of students from non-EU countries) and therefore the possibility of using them in internship programs implemented in most of the Bulgarian tourism organizations.
