Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the evolution of labor protection in interwar Romania, investigating the regulatory framework, state institutions, the dynamics of labor relations, and the transformations generated by the accelerated process of industrialization. The study adopts a historical-legal and socio-economic perspective, examining how labor legislation, influenced by the recommendations of the International Labor Organization, attempted to respond to the needs of an economy in transition. It highlights both the significant legislative progress, such as the unification of labor law and the introduction of regulations on working time, industrial safety, and social insurance, and the limits of their practical application, caused by insufficiently developed industrial infrastructure, lack of investment, and reduced administrative capacity. The analysis reveals the persistent tensions between the Romanian state's modernization project and the structural realities of the interwar economy, highlighting the social impact of these policies on the working class, the formation of trade union identity, and the broader process of consolidating the welfare state in Romania.
