Summary/Abstract: At present, private tutoring represents a significant social phenomenon experiencing considerable expansion, with participation in such sessions predominantly associated with positively influencing academic performance. Beyond the measurable outcomes in terms of grades, it is also important to consider the psychological and social implications that may emerge from the factors underpinning the decision to engage a private tutor. As admission to higher education and the successful completion of national exams represent primary reasons — reflecting competitiveness as a fundamental mechanism within the Romanian education system — this phenomenon plays a key role in sustaining the viability of private tutoring. Nevertheless, the conditions under which these sessions are provided are equally noteworthy, particularly the financial situation of the family, which profoundly and decisively shapes access to such educational support.
