Summary/Abstract: Words of Arabic origin in the South Slavic languages constitute a significant part of the vocabulary, primarily introduced through the Turkish language during the Ottoman Empire. They cover areas such as religion, administration, daily life, and trade, reflecting the historical and cultural connections in the region. The aim of this study is to analyze the phonetic transformations of Arabic lexemes in the different South Slavic languages and to classify the loanwords according to their frequency of use. Through a comparative analysis, the study examines the specific features of adaptation in Bulgarian, Serbian, Macedonian, Bosnian, Croatian, Slovenian, and Slovak. The results provide valuable insights into the linguistic processes related to borrowing and adaptation, as well as the cultural influences that have shaped the lexical systems of the region.
