Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes youth social policies in socialist Romania through an integrated sociological and ideological lens, focusing on the emerging concept of juventology, a discipline dedicated to understanding youth as a socially and historically conditioned phenomenon. The study examines the processes of social homogenization among youth, their role in both reproducing and transforming the social order, and the tensions between socialization and juventization. The study explores generational dynamics, the evolving meaning of labor, and the state’s efforts to discipline and mobilize youth to legitimize the regime. Additionally, it addresses the transformation of socialist family structures, gender and demographic policies, and their impact on women’s emancipation. Grounded in interdisciplinary inquiry and extensive references to contemporary sociological research, the article concludes that despite ideological constraints, youth sociology in socialist Romania retained a moderate critical function, reflecting the tensions between state ideology and social reality.
