Summary/Abstract: In 1454, the Serbian Despotate was attacked by the Ottoman invaders, led by Sultan Mehmed II (1444–1446, 1451–1481). Parallel to the fighting in the north of the state, two smaller Serbian armies, stationed in Dubočica or Kislina and in Sitnica, opposed the Turks in the wider area of Novo Brdo. Important information about these events was left to us by Konstantin Mihailović from Ostrovica, as well as by some Serbian chroniclers. The Serbian army led by Nikola Skobalić defeated the Turkish forces in Banja on 24 September 1454, while during or after the conflict near Trepanja on 16 November of the same year, this hero was captured and martyred. The geographical positions of Banja, Trepanja and Kislina have long been controversial in Serbian historiography, with conflicting assumptions made about their locations. Our work aims to determine the location and extent of these areas by analysing available medieval and Ottoman written sources, as well as cartographic and archaeological material.
