On the 100th Anniversary of Alija Izetbegović’s Birth

Summary/Abstract: (Address delivered at the promotion of the book Our Survival Is Our Victory (Selected Quotations of Alija Izetbegović), edited by O. Hamzić and E. Šaković, Gračanica, August 20, 2025.) The text was prepared to mark the 100th anniversary of Alija Izetbegović’s birth and the publication Our Survival Is Our Victory (Selected Quotations of Alija Izetbegović). Through a retrospective of previous Gračanički glasnik projects and his own editorial experience, the author reflects on Izetbegović’s political, philosophical, and moral legacy within the broader historical context of the breakup of Yugoslavia, the war for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the modern reception of his ideas. Although originally delivered as a public address, the text is presented here as a documentary and essayistic contribution to understanding Izetbegović’s enduring role and message for the contemporary era.
