Summary/Abstract: This article examines the theoretical problems that determine and restrain the formation of basic professional competence in the preparation of future bachelors of law in institutions of higher education. Among the many reasons that hold back the renewal of education, one can name its certain one-sidedness and disharmony, when instead of a complete socio-cultural experience, the acquirers, in fact, learn only a part of it, first of all, the educational component that is responsible for being filled with knowledge. Today, such an approach has turned out to be insufficient. Society needs trained specialists who are capable of inclusion in further life activities, who will be able to practically solve both life and professional problems that will arise before them. This largely depends not only on the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities, but also on some additional skills, for the definition of which the concepts of «competence» and «competence» are used. On the basis of different approaches to the interpretation of the category of «professional competence», its content and structure, and selected features of the activity of the future specialist, we formulate the concept of «professional competence of the future bachelor of law», by which we understand a complex integrated education. This integration includes, in addition to the cognitive and activity-practical components, which provide knowledge, abilities and skills sufficient for the performance of professional functions in accordance with the norms of legal activity, also moralethical and motivational components, as well as ‒ a high level of general culture, civic maturity, tolerance and loyalty, the ability to professional communication, competitiveness, and due to the dynamic nature of the field of law ‒ the need and ability to constantly learn and update one’s knowledge. It is also necessary to maximize the content of education with practical tasks that will be close to the needs that will arise in the professional activities of future bachelors of law.
