Summary/Abstract: This paper explores the role of color as a manipulative and storytelling tool in graphic novels, focusing on how chromatic choices shape reader perception, emotional connection, and cultural understanding. The theoretical basis (color psychology, visual semiotics, and cultural studies) examines the dual roles of color as both a psychological trigger and a culturally influenced sign within graphic stories. Through detailed case studies of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen (1986) and Mariko and Jillian Tamaki’s This One Summer (2014), the article aims to show how color schemes and symbolism add to themes, character development, and reader engagement. The results indicate that color in graphic novels goes beyond visual appeal, acting as a flexible tool that influences narrative meaning and emotional reactions. This research enhances the scholarly discussion on visual storytelling by highlighting color’s importance in the multimodal language of graphic novels, providing insights into the relationship between color, story, and culture.
