Revisiting The Other. Reflections on Norman Manea’s Migrant Figure

Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to focus on the theme of the other, analyzing it in the context of a globalized, multicultural world which erases the limits imposed by nationality, ethnicity and culture. It also addresses the issues of marginality, recognition and scapgoating with the purpose of proving the righteous use of this term in defining some ‘privileged’ categories of people. Norman Manea’s case is selected to exemplify the image of the foreigner (the migrant, the stranger, or simply the other) always on the road, but struggling for cultural locality, analyzing and interpreting his condition in categories of alterity.
