Summary/Abstract: The present study presents a lesser-known aspect that generated some controversy when it produced its effects. It is about the sudden adoption of the Western Gregorian calendar during the German military occupation of Bucharest. King Ferdinand I, the government and a good part of the population retreated to Moldavia, to Iași, which becamethe war capital of Romania for almost two years. The research is based on diaries and memoirs such as: ”Maria, Queen of Romania, War Diary 1917-1918”, Henri Berthelot, ”Journal and Correspondence 1916-1919”, Vasile Bianu, ”Notes from the Great Romanian War, Volume I. From mobilization to peace in Bucharest”, Costin Petrescu, ”In Iași during the 1916-1917 war. The notes of a refugee painter”, Ion Agrigoroaiei, ”The city of Iași - "the capital of resistance to the end" (1916-1917), Constantin Bacalbașa, ”The capital under enemy occupation, 1916-1917”, Claudiu-Lucian Topor, ”"Auf nach Rumanien" The German-Romanian conflict 1916-1918”, Pia Alimăneștianu, ”Notes during the occupation German (1916-1918)”, Kostaki, C. Lupu, ”Memoirs of a traitor. A high-ranking Romanian official under the German military rule (1916-1918)”.A less common episode is also presented, at least for the first half of the 20th century, the theft of the relics of Saint Dimitrie Basarabov (the New), the protector of Bucharest.
