Between the lines of one documentary chronicle

Summary/Abstract: In 2005, under the edition of Prof. Dr. Julian Kujumdziev, the private correspondence between the two prominent Bulgarian musicians – Konstantin Iliev (1924 – 1988) and Lazar Nikolov (1922 – 2005) has been published. Тhe book was issued in Plovdiv with the support of the national fund „Culture“. Even though this series of letters suggest informal, intimate form of communication, close to a confession, this correspondence is a clear and objective document. „This book authentically represents а turning point in our music history, creating new ways for the contemporary Bulgarian music during the second half of the XX th century, as well as putting a light on those processes and explaining them in a different way“ , states Proff. Rr. Julian Kujumdziev. (page №3) The 234 letters in this book contain a period of 40 years from the lives of the composers – between 1945 and 1987. It reveals the beginning of the painful creation and establishment of a new type of Bulgarian contemporary music. This process turns into a lifelong mission for the two composers, both professionally and personally.
