Summary/Abstract: The name of the composer Ivan Spasov is invariably associated with the overall vision of Bulgarian musical modernism, and hence with the natural continuity of the creative concepts of Lazar Nikolov and Konstantin Iliev, which were formed in the 1950s and 1960s. The article examines the factors that shaped the diversity of Ivan Spasov's personal and artistic characteristics and sketches a portrait of his complex nature. The paper explores the composer's new and different form of symphonic thinking, the introduction of aleatoric-sonoric techniques that created Spasov's typical magical soundscape, which built unique spatio-temporal structures. Presented is the debatable topic of the relationship „national folklore – personal creativity", on which the composer takes a position different from that of the „First generation of modernists“ represented by Lazar Nikolov and Konstantin Iliev.
