EVOLUTION OF ONLINE SHOPPING IN THE EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article was to assess the changes that have taken placein the e-commerce sector in the European Union countries in the last decade.The analysis used the online databases of the Statistical Office of the EuropeanUnion (Eurostat). The objective was achieved based on an analysis of data and calculationof the dynamics indicator in relation to the percentage of active customerson the Internet and the percentage of people who have never made a purchase on theInternet. The share of e-commerce in the total turnover of enterprises was also analyzed,as well as, for a more complete illustration of the studied phenomenon, thepercentage of people who have made online purchases in the clothing and electronicsindustries. It was shown that the percentage of individual customers surveyedwho have recently made purchases on the Internet shows an upward trend both inPoland and in most European Union member states. In all the analyzed countries,in 2023, compared to 2014, a decrease in the percentage of people reluctant to shoponline was noted. In Poland, there was an upward trend in buying clothes online.This is also visible in almost all EU member states, with the exception of Finland.Meanwhile, the percentage of people in Poland buying electronics online decreasedby 20% in 2023 compared to 2014. In this respect, the differentiation of changes indifferent countries was very clear.
