Summary/Abstract: Emperor Constantine the Great and Licinius issued the Edict of Milan (Edictum Mediolanense) 1700 years ago. This Edict warranted freedom to the Christians living in the Roman Empire. At that time Christians were the 10% of the total population. They had an important role later on, due to the policy of Emperor Constantine who supported the Christians without persecuting the pagans. The Edict of Milan resulted in the most important ideological and political turn in the history of Europe. Not only had it warranted the prosperity and evolvement of Christianity, but it founded the European culture built on Christianity.
