Summary/Abstract: The article presents a comparison of the grammatical exegesis in the translated works of Athanasius of Alexandria, and in particular Four Discourses Against the Arians, and a little-known work, preserved in Russian and Georgian translations, dedicated to the Holy Cross and the veneration of icons in the Orthodox tradition. The genre of the work is a homily in which arguments are presented in defense of the Holy cross and icons in the spirit of the anti-iconoclastic polemic. The ancient theological interpretations in this text lead to a very early period of acceptance and assimilation of the Christian religion.
