Summary/Abstract: The article looks at selected issues regarding Kaliningrad region (oblast) – Russia’s exclave and the smallest administrative subject of the Russian Federation. In the first section, the author introduces the Kaliningrad region – its history, demographics, as well as political and socioeconomic features and trends. The special attention is given to the military issues. The second section focuses on the local border traffic between Poland and Russia (Kaliningrad region is the only part of Russia that Poland has a common border with), as one year has passed since its launching. The author discusses benefits, concerns and results of the local traffic border agreement.
