Summary/Abstract: Between December 4 and December 14, 1985, the fourteenth Population and Housing Census was conducted in Bulgaria. In its nearly one-hundred-year history, the Census aimed to meet the contemporary needs for information on the country’s human resources. It reliably and comprehensively reflects both the demographic, educational, and socio-economic transformations in the Bulgarian population, as well as the underlying processes and social mechanisms. This article focuses on three sociological surveys conducted during the census: I. Fertility and Reproductive Behavior of Women. Valuable data were collected, enabling analysis of women’s reproductive behavior and the factors influencing it at the given stage of Bulgaria’s socio-economic development. II. Internal Migration and Migration Behavior of the Population. For the first time, alongside the quantitative dimensions of this socio-demographic process, significant attention was given to the behavioral aspects of migration. The study thus provides highly useful information for social policy and management bodies. III. Labour Potential and Employment Fulfillment. Labour-related values were examined through the role of work within a broader system of life values, including eight categories: social status, material well-being, self-actualization through work, contributing to society, family, carefree life, risk- and conflict-free living, and other personal values.
