Summary/Abstract: The period of crystallization of the concept of Carpatho-Rusynism dates back to the second half of the 19th century. The ideological searches of the awakening intelligentsia took place in sharp discussions of the «autochthons» with the Russophilists, who were focused on Russian culture and language. The efforts of the Carpathian Ruthenians to have their literary standard based on the national language and to develop it through Ruthenian-language beautiful literature did not achieve noticeable results. However, over time, these efforts opened the way to science and progress for the broad masses of the people.
