Summary/Abstract: The dominant mission of the literary revival of the Carpathian Ruthenians in the interwar period was the establishment of a national theater and the development of local dramaturgy. This process was implemented quite specifically. The village intelligentsia founded amateur theaters. In Subcarpathian Ruthenia, there were almost 460 such theater groups, in the Prešov region there was a theater in almost every third village. The repertoire of these theaters included almost a hundred plays written by local playwrights. This fact inspired the Czech government to establish a professional theater in Uzhhorod. «Земский Подкарпаторусский народный театръ» debuted in April 1936.
