Summary/Abstract: The current study investigates how the “opening of the nation” of the Carpathian Rusyns took place on the bases of “the foundation myth” which had been formed around the so-called “Theodor’s Gift” (“founding” of the Mukachevo Monastery by the Theodor Koriatovych – Prince of Podillya in 1360) starting with Adam Frantishek Kollara (1749) and ending with Yurij Zhatkovych (1890). The final formation of this “foundation myth” was associated with the six-volume “Historia Carpatho-Ruthenorum” by Michael Luchkay (1842–1843) and with the first critical scientific reflections on the state of historiography of Hungarian Rusyns by Y. Zhatkovych (1890). However after the emergence of the first critical scientific reflections on the Church history of the Rusyns of Hungary by Anthony Godynka (1909) and by Aleksey Petrov (1930) the author offers to rethink the some of classical provisions of “the foundation myth” of the history of the Carpathian Rusyns.
