Summary/Abstract: This paper studies expressions of wishes containing subjunctive forms in Bulgarian and Romanian, aiming to deepen the understanding of the subjunctive in the Balkan context and comparing its usage in wishes between Romanian and Bulgarian. The expressions used in the paper are commonly used in everyday language. The similarities and differences between expressions in both languages are examined. Based on their meaning, the expressions of wishes are categorized into groups such as health and longevity wishes, invocations of divinity, traditions, condolences, and commonly used wishes without equivalents in the other language. The paper analyzes the structures of the wishes with subjunctive forms in both languages, categorizing them into common, corresponding, and different schemes. Despite linguistic variations, the analysis reveals significant grammatical and lexical similarities between Bulgarian and Romanian expressions of wishes with subjunctive forms, reflecting the linguistic closeness of the two languages.
