Summary/Abstract: The article examines some of the more important laws concerning the development of applied and fine arts in the new political environment that prevailed in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria after 1948. The different dynamics in the relations between artists and the authorities before the establishment of the State Commission for Fine and Applied Arts and Architecture in 1976 will be traced. In order to be able to participate in the distribution of orders, however, they must meet requirements set by law, but also by ideological censorship.
