Summary/Abstract: The monumental mural arts on the exteriors from the 1960s and 1970s still have an active presence in the modern urban environment of Sofia; we see them on the facades of kindergartens, schools, hospitals, and public buildings. Some of them have been preserved, but others, for various reasons, have been removed. The focus of the present study is on two monumental mural artworks that were part of the appearance of the capital—one on G. S. Rakovski St. from 1969 and one on the facade of the Orbita Youth Complex from 1974. An attempt will be made to clarify the circumstances surrounding their creation and execution technique. The look at the monumental mural artworks from the socialist period would serve to rethink this type of art as an invariable part of the city environment.
