Summary/Abstract: Epinikion is a victory ode in the form of choral lyric, sung in praise of competitors who would win at one of the major public ceremonial games that were dedicated to the gods and held in Greece since the eighth century B.C. This paper is an attempt of comparative analysis of these two epinikia. One poem was written by Pindar and the other by Bacchylides, but both poems are dedicated to the same man and the same event, so they have the same title ‘’For Hieron of Syracuse’. Ancient Greek poets, each in his own way, use poetic speeches of Hieron’s Olympic victory. By using the method of comparative analysis, the author has attempted to highlight some values of these great poems written in the fifth century B.C., but which are popular even today by their reflection.
