Summary/Abstract: This paper seeks to explain the behavior of Ćopić's character who has been seized by the mass psychology. After the World War II, there was organized collective resettlement of families from more passive parts of Bosnia (Krajina), to the gentler regions which were more accessible for living in Vojvodina (Banat). Among them was the hero of the Ćopić's novel Jovandeka Babic, who would rather die than be incorporated into a new way of life. His grief for his homeland is present from the beginning to the end of the novel. It is most visible, and most convincing, in the end, when one can see that the hero, even in his deathbed, is thinking about his homeland, about Krajina.
