Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to explain the external influences on the behavior of Ćopić’s protagonists in his novels, as well as their relationships with these influences. Humor was one of the ways to soften the hardships of everyday life in any way possible, a life which was, in those times very hard and unforgiving. Characters, overseen carefully by authors caring hand, can be related to ethical and aesthetical values of humans in general in almost every situation in life. By examining the novels carefully, especially the element of humor found in them, attempts to limit this author to the regional framework in a vulgar manner can be easily rebutted, because we notice, without effort, that everything his heroes have to offer us makes not only people from Krajina laugh, but everyone else as well. This also supports the fact that the author had “teachers” within common people themselves. That is exactly what gives his wok additional value – a strong foundation within the very people it came from. This is the reason why Branko Ćopić endures and “ages” very slowly. This is also the reason why he is everyone’s, not just someone’s.
