Summary/Abstract: Ćopić is, similar to Andrić, Lalić, Njegoš, Sušić and some of our other writers, an artist who supplemented his creative potential with the wisdom of oral literary creation. His gift would have been possible without “going” among the people, but he, with good reason, believed that he would achieve more, pass safer and be more convincing, and more interesting, in telling the truth about the accident in which his people found themselves. And, most importantly, as a writer, it will last longer, that is, it will be difficult to get out of the sphere of interest of the readership. The paper highlights only some of the numerous examples of proverbial material that he used in the novel Don’t Grieve Bronze Guard, which appear in descriptions, monologues and dialogues of characters, landscapes and etc.
