Summary/Abstract: Symbolic play has long been considered a useful developmental context. This article examines the development of symbolic play in early childhood, with a focus on analyzing the theories of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Freud. The influence of parent-child interaction on the development of symbolic play and the extent to which it provides a supportive environment for enhancing social and cognitive development in children is examined.
