Sustainable enterprise: a critique of the approach

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is a critique of the assumptions of the sustainable enterprise concept, i.e. the threat to the existence of humankind as a result of the environmental degradation caused by economic development and the knowledge on the needs of future generations. What was indicated were the consequences of adopting the sustainable enterprise concept for the organizational management practice. One of them is the increase in costs leading to loss of competitiveness. The argument is being developed that management is becoming ideological through the use of efficiency measures that go beyond traditional profit and loss accounting. What is meant here are measures linked to the natural environment degradation, used depending on the current political interests. The thesis was supported by relevant statistical data, expert opinions, and sociological research results.
