Summary/Abstract: Th e article deals with select aspects of the work of the police of the Czech Republic in connection with adherence to human rights. At the beginning of the article the author describes a general position of the police in the society, tasks that are the police expected to carry and the expectations of the society. He briefly speaks about contractual and noncontractual documents within the scope of European Union and also deals with the position of the public guardian of the rights in the Czech Republic according to law No. 349/1999. At the end of the article there is a role of nongovernmental nonprofit organisations, their function and influence on the work of the police in the Czech Republic.
