Summary/Abstract: The main goal of this paper is to characterise land commons in Poland, discussing their role in food production. The following land commons and their functions werepresented: public forests, traditional land commons, community gardens and allotmentgardens. Based on available scarce data and own research, the area of land commonsin Poland and amount of food produced or collected there was estimated. The paperis aimed to open a discussion on the economic, social, environmental, role of land commonsin Poland and political implications of appreciation of the importance of land commons.
