Consumer protection in compulsory motor third party liability insurance

Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the legal consumer protection instruments in compulsory motor third party liability insurance. Its main objective is to present all legal solutions that are characteristic for this type of insurance cover and which become effective the moment the insurance contract is concluded, through compensation of the claim, until insurance cover is over. Moreover, the article presents the legal grounds and the general evolution of con- sumer protection in the European Union and in Poland. Consumer protection is one of the main aspects of subsequent amendments of the insurance law and constitutes a determi- nant of the European Union's policy. Knowledge of the rights to which consumers of the compulsory motor third party liability insurance are entitled increases the insurance aware- ness and the insurance market standards.
