Summary/Abstract: The great testament by François Villon (1421-1463) is a text of a multitude of sounds – from parody, cynical ridicule and elevated loquacity to the exaggerated grumble of a rejected lover and somber meditation on the verge of death. This turns the text into a curious hybrid of genres – it is far from a sole inventory of a man sentenced to death nor is it a list of his last wants. On the other hand, the bequeathed things by Villon – objects, buildings, titles and verses – are often not in his possession but are more likely to be entirely useless or provocative. This leads us to suppose that they are becoming just another tool for communication between Villon’s text and his inheritors and readers with the purpose of ridiculing the addressees and his own author, to remind them of their shameful secrets as well as seek possibilities for social justice or an alternative remembrance of Villon.
