Summary/Abstract: Based on numerous studies which have demonstrated the effectiveness of using literary resources in an educational context for language learning, the aim of this paper is to demonstrate the important role of literature in language acquisition contexts. Focusing on the relation text-image, the main purpose of this paper is to approach the graphic novel as a valuable teaching resource in the process of teaching Romanian as a foreign language, identifying the skills and competences that can be taught/assimilated through this type of texts and providing concrete examples of how graphic novels can be integrated into the instructional process. Based on the assumption that literacy occurs in a variety of ways and that visual material facilitates the assimilation of vocabulary concepts, we seek to demonstrate that visual reception enhances the comprehension of written text. Therefore, the basic principles of this paper are: (1) reading graphic novels involves a complex, multimodal reading, and (2) integrating graphic novels into the educational context contributes to the development of multimodal literacy skills.
