Summary/Abstract: In a nebulous literary landscape, a textual hybrid was born in 1977, the autofiction, artificially created to fill a literary void, the open space between autobiography and fiction, where the reader concludes a novelistic pact with the author who assumes a tripartite role and bears the sign of equivalence between author, narrator and character (a homodiegetic character who signs a "nominal protocol"). The aim of this paper is to identify and analyse the debatable nature of this new literary "genre", that during its brief history, for only four decades, proved to be a prolific, but also a challenging subject for both literature and literary criticism, creating numerous debates.
